While waiting for the market to turn around, property owners often consider leasing their homes rather than deal with long listing times and lower purchase prices. Licensees in Minnesota can perform some property management and leasing activities through the broker or brokerage company responsible for their licenses. This course discusses the major differences between leasing and property management and walks you through the steps necessary to properly assist your landlord and tenant clients.
The Department of Commerce requires licensees to complete a 3.75-hour module course on Residential Leasing in 2011-2012 to renew their licenses*. This course is designed to meet that requirement.
Highlights of the Minnesota Residential Leasing course include:
- An introduction to residential leasing, what it is and what it is not; when leasing might be preferred to selling or buying; listing properties for lease; and working with the tenant.
- The rental process from application to move-in, including processing rental applications, tenant screenings, Fair Housing laws for tenants and landlords, the lease agreement, and managing the move-in process.
- Risk management, from company policy suggestions to a risk management checklist; and landlord clients having tenant problems.
*Please note: This course does NOT meet the 2013-14 Required Module Requirement.
